Inspiration, Recipes, and Updates for January
2025 is here, and we’re ready to make this year the best one yet. In this post, Chef Dawn and I will share our favourite 3 tips for sustaining your New Years Resolutions, 2 events to support you in feeling your absolute best, and 1 recipe for you to try by the end of the month.
We invite you to share your favourite habit-sustaining tips and winter recipes in the comment section (below this post).
3 Tips for Sustainable Habits
1) Find what you love, and add that FIRST
Whether it’s food or fitness, start by incorporating what you love most AND what serves your health at the same time. For example, if you love going for a walk - start with walking more often. If you enjoy a big bowl of greek yogurt, berries, and walnuts - make that your regular breakfast. Doing what you love makes building a habit feel much easier and brings joy to doing something healthy!
2) If a new habit feels too big, start small, or even start the first “2-minutes”
You don’t need to jump “all-in” to a new habit. Practicing the first step can improve consistency and confidence in doing your new habit. For example, if going for a 30 minute walk feels like a big jump, start by walking to the mailbox and back (a few minutes) once per day. Who knows, you might even walk a bit further once you’re out.
Similarly, if preparing breakfast, lunch, AND dinner feels like a big task, start with preparing one each day (or bulk prepping one at the beginning of the week). And - celebrate every success! Celebrating small steps makes is easier to build consistent habits (and, beating yourself up doesn’t feel so good, so pick small goals and feel good instead…).
3) Discover your “Big Why” - you can read more about it in our book Always Hungry? (pg. 128 - 129)
or visit our post “Is Your Big Why Working For You?” here »
When we connect with our “Big Why” (our main, deep-rooted motivation for doing something), we feel much more inclined to do it. We encourage you to find something that reminds you of your Big Why and place it somewhere you see often (ie: a picture, a piece of jewelry, a wallpaper on your phone, etc.).
When you accomplish your new habit, reflect on how it allows you to feel in relation to your “Big Why”. For example, if your “Big Why” is to be able to be more mobile and move freely in your body, reflect on how an afternoon walk allows your body to feel. Constantly referring to your Big Why and reflecting upon it helps you to focus on the bigger goal and stay motivated to accomplish it.

1 Recipe for you to try in January
January calls for comfort food that brings us a sense of warmness through the chilly weather. This quick-and-easy variation of our classic Waffle recipe is one of our favourites for a savory, comforting meal to enjoy for brunch or dinner!
Mini Cheese Stuffed Savory Muffins or “Chaffles”
Mix together all ingredients listed in our Grain Free Waffle recipe, except for the fruit sauce and vanilla extract (page 223 of Always Hungry? or on the link above).
Add 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese to the batter. If you like spice, you may add 1 tsp of chili powder to the batter OR 1-2 chopped jalapeño peppers (without seeds is less spicy, with seeds is more spicy). If preparing these as “Chaffles”, continue to follow the recipe as is.
If preparing these as muffins, follow these steps…
Preheat your oven to 350°F.
Lightly grease mini muffin tins OR use silicone muffin tins for easier clean up.
Divide the batter evenly into regular or mini muffin tins (will make approximately 35-40 mini muffins, depending on the specific size of your muffin tins).
Press about a teaspoon of additional cheese into the center of each muffin. Our favorites are: goat cheese, cheddar cheese, and mozzarella.
Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the batter is cooked through (test by poking a wooden skewer into the muffins just off-center – of course, the cheese will be melty, but the batter should be fully cooked through).
Let cool for 5 minutes and enjoy!
Would you add any herbs or spices to your waffles or “waffle muffin” batter? Comment to let us know your favorite flavor additions below!
✨ On behalf of the Always Hungry? Solution, we wish you a wonderful start of 2025. In health & happiness,
Dawn & Kenzie
